PLAY OF THE DAY!
The Guardians had the day off yesterday and managed to gain ground in the race for the AL Central. The Guardians have been one of the BEST home teams in basbeall this year, posting a 41-24 record at Progressive Field coming into tonight! Tonight, they host a Pirates team that just got swept by the Cubs at home. After such a disheartening series, it’s hard to see them getting up for a game against one of the BEST teams in baseball! Ben Lively has been solid, if unspectacular, this season for the Guardians. He has a 3.62 ERA and 1.19 WHIP on the year, and has thrown back-to-back quality starts. He’s been even BETTER at home, pitching to a 3.34 ERA, .228 batting average against, and 1.16 WHIP. Southpaw Bailey Falter, meanwhile, has had an up-and-down season for the Pirates. He’s given up 4 earned runs or more in 2 of his last 3 starts and is pitching to a 4.97 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over his last 7 starts. This Play will likely come down to Ben Lively and Cleveland’s bullpen. The Pirates are averaging 4.9 runs per game over their last 10 games and have hitters that can do damage. However, Cleveland averages ALMOST 5 runs per game at home this year. They shouldn’t have ANY ISSUES scoring runs tonight. If Lively can do his part, Cleveland SHOULD start this weekend off on the right foot!
