Spring is here and summer is around the corner. This is the time of year we like to be outside with our friends and family, not stuck inside the kitchen preparing meals. In order to ensure we spend as much time as we can doing what we love all summer we need to prepare for summer entertaining in advance. Preparing in advance applies to our beverages as well. We need to make sure our kitchens have all the ingredients to make these fabulous drinks. Add some of these ingredients to your shopping list. Your guests will appreciate your advance planning!
There are many ways to make a Whiskey Sour, but a classic recipe is to mix two parts whiskey, one part lemon juice and one-part simple syrup in a shaker with ice. You can also add an egg white for a frothy texture. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
To make a Moscow Mule, you need to mix vodka, lime juice and ginger beer in a glass or a copper mug with ice. You can also add some ginger syrup for extra flavor. Garnish with a lime wedge or a sprig of mint.
To make a Mai Tai, you need to mix white rum, dark rum, orange liqueur, lime juice and orgeat (an almond syrup) in a shaker with ice. You can also add some pineapple juice, simple syrup or cherry juice for extra sweetness. Pour into a glass with more ice and top with some more dark rum. Garnish with a mint sprig, a cherry and a pineapple wedge.
To make a Margarita, you need to mix tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur and agave syrup (or simple syrup) in a shaker with ice. You can also use frozen limeade concentrate for a slushy version. Pour into a glass with more ice and a salt rim. Garnish with a lime wedge.
To make an Old Fashioned, you need to muddle a sugar cube (or use simple syrup) with a splash of water and a few dashes of bitters in a glass. Then add some ice cubes and bourbon whiskey or rye whiskey. Stir well and garnish with an orange twist, a lemon peel or a maraschino cherry.
Enjoy your hard work and entertain with ease this summer!
