Xam’s Daily Gems:

Twins -1 -190 DraftKings

Pablo Lopez looks to rebound after struggling for much of the year. He gets a home start against one of the worst teams in the league to do it. The Twins themselves need to bounce back after a 3-7 stretch in their last 10 games. Simply put, Lopez is better than his 5.45 ERA indicates. Southpaw Austin Gomber has given up 7 runs in just 8 innings in his last 2 road starts, so the Twins SHOULD be able to hit him and secure the win.

Padres Money Line -192 DraftKings

Michael King makes the start for the Padres today. While he’s been solid all year, he’s been even better recently. He’s got a 3.58 ERA this year but a 2.36 ERA in his last 7 starts! He’s also given up just 2 runs in his last 3 starts combined. Now he faces one of the worst lineups in baseball. Hogan Harris has pitched well this year, but he still has a 5.94 career ERA and had a 9.12 ERA on the road last year! The Padres have been hot and should continue their hot streak tonight.

Tigers Money Line -135 DraftKings

The Tigers are trying to scratch and claw their way back to .500. Reese Olson got bombed in his last start, but even with that performance he still has an impressive 2.84 ERA at Comerica Park. Jake Irvin has been solid for the Nationals, but this is a prime letdown spot after they’ve won 4 in a row. If the Tigers can score some runs, the back of their bullpen should be FULLY ready to go!

Mets Money Line -142 FanDuel

The Mets have played well against the Marlins recently, and desperately need to get their season on track. They’ve been a big disappointment so far this year. However, southpaw David Peterson has pitched well. He has a 3.09 ERA, albeit in just 2 starts, but has looked confident. Now he faces a weak Marlins lineup that struggles to score. The Mets have the hitters to beat Braxton Garrett and his 5.81 ERA. Look for the Mets to show urgency in this game after losing the first game of this series.

Mavericks Money Line -135 DraftKings

The season is essentially on the line tonight for the Mavericks. Lose tonight, and they’re down 3-0 in the NBA Finals. They need their superstars, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, to be the leaders and superstars that they are. The Celtics will likely be without Kristaps Porzingis tonight, and they were very beatable in Game 2. The Mavs need help from their supporting cast. Going 2-17 from deep outside of Luka Doncic, like they did in Game 2, isn’t going to cut it. Kyrie Irving will likely be better, as he can’t be any worse. If the Mavericks can get some help from their role players, the home crowd SHOULD be able to help them get over the hump and get on the board in this series!

Angels/Diamondbacks Over 8.5 Runs -120 FanDuel

The Diamondbacks have a GREAT lineup and hit this Total yesterday by themselves! Tonight they face Jose Soriano, who’s been decent but hittable this year. The Diamondbacks have been scoring in droves for most of the year, and at home they SHOULD continue that tonight. They’re averaging 4.56 runs per game at home. The key tonight will be what the Angels do against Slade Cecconi. He has a 5.66 ERA on the year, and that goes up to 6.11 over his last 7 games. The Angels have struggled to score without Mike Trout, but IF they can muster up any offense, we SHOULD be in store for another big offensive night in Arizona!

Mariners -1 -190 DraftKings

The Mariners look to win the series against the White Sox tonight with Bryce Miller on the mound. He’s been solid, if unspectacular this season. He has a 3.81 ERA but that drops to a superb 2.13 ERA in front of the home crowd. He’s looking to bunce back after a horrible performance in his last start that saw him give up 7 runs! The White Sox counter with righty Jonathan Cannon, who’s been horrible this year. In 4 games (3 starts) he has a 5.94 ERA! He also got waxed in his only road start of the year. The Mariners SHOULD have the ability to hit him and score some runs. Bryce Miller and the bullpen should be able to take care of the rest!

David Peterson Over 4.5 Ks -145 DraftKings

Peterson has just 5 strikeouts in 2 starts this year, but the Marlins can strikeout a lot, as evidenced by Tylor Megill racking up 8 strikeouts yesterday. The Mets once again didn’t get length from the starter yesterday, so Peterson SHOULD get all the time he can handle on the mound. He has good stuff and if he can keep his pitch count under control, he SHOULD be able to at least double his strikeout output on the year.

David Peterson Over 15.5 Outs Recorded -135 DraftKings

Peterson went 6.2 innings in his last start which came on the road. In his first start of the year, he went 5 innings. He should be FULLY stretched out and has had extra time to rest, having last pitched 8 days ago. The Mets are in DESPERATE need of someone, anyone in the rotation to give them length. They needed 4.1 innings from the bullpen yesterday and manager Danny Mendoza would love to not have to do that again. If Peterson can be efficient, he has a chance to BLOW past this number!

Javier Assad Over 4.5 Ks -140 DraftKings

Assad has cleared this number in each of his last 3 starts and 4 of his last 5. In each of those starts, he has at least 7 strikeouts! He’s been able to strike batters out on the road too, averaging 5.7 Ks per road start this year. Tampa Bay is also in the bottom 10 in strikeouts per game, so Assad should have PLENTY of chances to miss bats in this one. If he can keep his pitch count under control, he shouldn’t have ANY ISSUES getting it done AGAIN tonight!

Cody Poteet Over 14.5 Outs Recorded -180 DraftKings

Poteet has been a revelation for the Yankees. In 3 starts, he’s given up just 3 earned runs. In his last start, he shut the Dodgers out for 4.2 innings! He’s cleared this number in 2 of his 3 starts with the Bronx Bombers. He has yet to throw more than 84 pitches on the year, but it has been a steady climb up for Poteet. The Yankees will have a pretty rested bullpen so they won’t hesitate to pull Poteet if they need to. However, if he can be efficient he has a great shot to go 5 innings and get this done. He’s building trust with manager Aaron Boone and pitching coach Matt Blake. That’s key for a pitcher who may top out around 90 pitches tonight.

Bryce Miller Over 17.5 Outs Recorded -210 DraftKings

Miller has gone over this line in 9 of his 13 starts this year, and 3 times in his last 4 starts. He’s a workhorse who manages to find ways to get outs even when he doesn’t have his best stuff. He’s been pretty bad in his last 7 starts, posting an ugly 5.36 ERA. However, he’s averaging a shade under 6 innings pitched per start in this stretch. He’s averaging just a tad over 6 innings pitched per start at home this year. Also, against a weak lineup, and at home, manager Scott Servais may push his young pitcher as deep as he can in this game. The Mariners have used a lot of pitchers out of the bullpen recently, and Miller has thrown 88 pitches or less in 3 of his last 4 starts. All of this shapes up to be a game where Bryce Miller shoulders a heavy workload and pitches deep into this game!
